Sheikh Abubakr Ahmad Conferred with Honorary Doctorate by Yenepoya University
Mangaluru: Yenepoya University, Mangaluru, has conferred an honorary doctorate on Grand Mufti of india Sheikh Abubakr Ahmad, a globally renowned Islamic scholar and the Founder of Markazu Saquafathi Sunniyya, in recognition of his six decades of outstanding contributions to education, social welfare and humanitarian service in India and abroad.
The honorary Doctor of Letters (D.Litt.) degree was presented by Dr. Yenepoya Abdulla Kunhi, Chancellor of Yenepoya University, at a ceremony held on the university campus in Deralakatte, Mangaluru.
The university expressed immense pride in honouring Sheikh Abubakr for his role as the Grand Mufti of India and a leader of the All India Sunni Jamiyyathul Ulama, through which he has inspired countless people and rendered invaluable service to education, social welfare, peace, harmony and nation-building.
Presenting the degree, Chancellor Dr. Yenepoya Abdulla Kunhi said that Sheikh Abubakr’s contributions to making education accessible and nurturing responsible, compassionate and socially conscious citizens were invaluable. He also highlighted the scholar’s remarkable service across educational and humanitarian fields.
Accepting the honour, Sheikh Abubakr Ahmad said that his commitment to education and social welfare stemmed from the Islamic principle that education is essential for refining human character and guiding society towards progress. He attributed the establishment of educational centres, including Markaz, to the immense blessings of Allah.
The ceremony was held at 3 p.m. at the YenDurence Hall as part of the university’s 16th convocation. Eminent personalities from the educational, social and political spheres attended the event.
Among those present were Vice-Chancellor Dr K S Gangadhara Somayaji, Registrar Dr Aswini Dutt R, Pro-Chancellors Dr M Vijayakumar and Dr. Mr Mohammed Farhaad Yenepoya, Controller of Examinations Dr B T Nandish, Islamic Academy of Education Trustee Dr. Habeeb Rahman, and Jamia Markaz Pro-Chancellor Dr. Hussain Muhammed Saquafi Chullikode, among others.
