Spiritual Conference: thousands gather in quest of enlightenment in Markaz

Calicut: The Ramadan spiritual conference and annual Ramadan speech of the Grand Mufti of India, Sheikh Abubakr Ahmad, were held at Jamia Markaz, enlightening the soul and minds of thousands.

The move to unify faith and practice is the biggest challenge facing secular India, and it must be opposed by believers together, Grand Mufti of India stated in his annual Ramadan speech. The unified Civil Code affects not only any particular sect but the minority communities in India as a whole. People must resist such moves as they threaten the country's Constitution and secular values, however, in doing so, resort completely to democratic means, he also added.

The spiritual gatherings and adorations at the Masjid and on the Jamia campus were extended from 1.00 pm afternoon to 3:30 am early morning. Thousands of believers from different parts of Kerala gathered in Markaz in anticipation of 'Lailatul Qadr', the Night of Decree, which is considered the most sacred night in the last ten days of Ramadan. Samasta President Raeesul Ulema E. Sulaiman Musliyar inaugurated the spiritual conference. Markaz President Sayyid Ali Bafakhi chaired the closing session and was inaugurated by the State General Secretary of Kerala Muslim Jama'at Sayyid Ibrahim Khalil Al Bukhari.

Recitation of the Holy Qur'an in seven different styles by students of Markaz, who topped in the Dubai International Holy Qur'an Award, awarding certificates for participants who completed the Ramadan special Qur'an training and Iftaar for thousands of people were other highlights of the programme.
