Calicut: Markaz Media Seminar stresses that the Media interventions on Muslim issues should be ethical. Muslims' beliefs and way of life in Kerala are fourteen hundred years old. The Muslim community historically lived deeply intertwined with other communities.
But, publishing news that creates false perceptions about them will make the lives of Muslims in the general public tenser. The seminar titled 'Muslim-Media Interactions: History, Present and Future' was held as part of the Markaz Annual Conference. Media activists TJ Jacob, MP Prashant, Rajiv Sankaran, Mustafa P. Erakkal and Deepak Dharmadam were the other panellists; Dr Nuiman KA made the introductory speech.
The demolition of the Babri Masjid was not only the concern of Muslims in India but everyone who believed in the Constitution. But racists took advantage of it by presenting it as a Muslim issue. The insecurity faced by Muslims should be the concern of every citizen of India. KJ Jacob said that political Islamists who make presentations that spread misunderstanding among other communities on religious issues should be taken care of.
The voice of traditional Muslims should louden on Muslim affairs, Rajeev Sankaran said. MP Prashant said that the general public should continue criticizing the media and that there should be more space for Muslims in the ownership in this time of new change in the media culture.
