Calicut: Jamia Markaz's 45th Annual Conference ends on a call for communal harmony and co-existence based on ethics on the Ethical Human, Peaceful World theme. 532 Saquafi scholars who completed their religious studies from Markaz graduated at the conference in the presence of tens of thousands of people. This year's graduates belong to sixteen states of India. Grand Mufti of India, Sheikh Abubakr Ahmad, delivered the keynote speech at the conference.
He said that the scholars who entered the field after studying the Muslim intellectual tradition have significant social responsibilities to perform. Purity of heart and devotion to God are essential aspects of religion. Everyone should possess unique qualities like compassion, love of fellow man, and generosity. Islam always emphasises mercy. This is the message Markaz has been spreading in the world for four and a half decades: Kanthapuram said.
The Sheikh Zayed Fifth Peace Conference concluded successfully as part of the conference with the theme. The event was attended by key political, cultural, and social figures, intellectuals, academics, and officials across India.
The conference was inaugurated by Gingee K.S. Masthan, Minister of Minorities Welfare, Govt of Tamil Nadu, who urged attendees to be ethical by upholding the Constitution, which embodies India's diverse heritage and culture. Several distinguished personalities, including M.M Arif MP, and S Haja Mohideen Gisthi, Special Public Prosecutor for Customs, Tamil Nadu, attended the event. The presence of differently-abled students at the Asman Centre for Happiness made the conference more delightful.
The Former Opposition Leader, Ramesh Chennithala, stressed the need for cooperation and love among all and highlighted the secular foundation of our country. He emphasised that the majority protects minorities during these challenging times. He further pointed out that despite Muslim rulers having ruled India for a long time, they did not attempt to make the country an Islamic state. He also highlighted that institutions like Jamia Markaz and Kanthapuram promote Islam's message of peace and tranquillity in India and worldwide.
The Markaz Conference honoured Abdussalam Musliar Devarshola, Dr Muhammad Farooq Naimi, Sulaiman Saquafi Maliekal, Abdulatif Saquafi Kanthapuram and Suhairuddin Nurani for their social services at the function. Thousands of people from different parts of the country participated in the conference. This is the first time such a large gathering has been held in Markaz after the covid break.
