Calicut: The 59th annual Khatmul Bukhari of Sheikh Abubakr Ahmad was held at Jamia Markaz on Wednesday. This is also the forty-fourth Khatmul Bukhari taking place in the Jamia Markaz.

Khatmul Bukhari is the culmination of the teaching of Sahih al-Bukhari, an essential collection of hadith including teachings, sayings, traditions and practices of Prophet Muhammad. It is considered to be the most excellent and most authoritative Islamic book in the world after the Qur'an. The Khatmul Bukhari has been carried out every year by Chancellor Sheikh Abubakr Ahmad, the current Grand Mufti of the country. This is also the 59th anniversary of his Hadith teaching.

The opportunity to study Sahih al-Bukhari thoroughly in regular mode is rare in India, available at only a handful of essential Jamias in the country, including Jamia Markaz, Jamia Nizamia Hyderabad and Al Jamiatul Ashrafia Mubarakpur. About 1000 regular graduate, postgraduate and doctoral students attend the Sahih al-Bukhari class daily at the Jamia Markaz.
The 59th Concluding ceremony of Sahih-Al-Bukhari and the passing out to five hundred students completed Saquafi graduation held at Jamia Markaz. The General Secretary of Kerala Muslim Jama'ath Sayyed Khalil Al Bukhari Inaugurated the function. He said that Sheikh Abubakr Ahmad is authentic and the most significant person in India in teaching the Sahih Al Bukhari text with a large number of disciples. The second volume of an interpretation of Sahih Al Bukhari in Arabic of the Sahih-al-Bukhari, namely, Tadkirul Qari, written by Sheikh Abubakr Ahmad, also published in the event.
